Do you remember Gene Kelley dancin' and "Singin' in the Rain"? Or Judy Garland looking somewhere "Over the Rainbow"? Billed "Hooray for Hollywood," forty great voices, singing in harmony, will celebrate these and other songs from the movies on Friday, June 30 at the James Armstrong Theatre in Torrance at 8 pm. Priority seating for members of the Symphony.
The program includes hits from Laura, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz and more. Featuring songs like "Laura," "That's Amore," plus a special medley of Mancini favorites, TV Themes and Commercials, the evening should appeal to all tastes and ages.
The entertainment is by "The Notables," a South Bay songster ensemble under the direction of Randall Schwalbe. The group is well known among aficionados of choral and glee-club type music, having performed at Dodger Stadium, at the MGM Studios and on KCET.
They perform in costume and selections include solos and, occasionally, dancing. Those who have not yet experienced the excellent acoustic qualities of the Armstrong are in for a treat. After the program, there will be prizes and free refreshments.
Although, in actuality, amateurs, the work of "The Notables" is professional in quality. The group, originally made up of Hughes Aircraft employees, started singing together in 1981. Since then, they have grown in popularity in the South Bay. Their last performance in El Segundo was a sell out.
Perhaps the best theater in the South Bay, seating at the Armstrong is limited. To avoid disappointment, a good plan is to purchase tickets as far in advance as possible. Tickets are $20 each. The proceeds go to benefit the Torrance Symphony, so they are a tax-deductible contribution. Additional donations are always gratefully appreciated.
Call (310) 781-7171 and have your credit card ready. Tickets can be picked up at the will-call window anytime prior to the performance, which starts at 8 p.m. The Armstrong Theater is located at 3330 Civic Center Drive, Torrance. There is ample parking and it's free.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 29, 2000
On Friday, June 30th, 2000, at 8 pm, the Torrance Symphony will be presenting its annual FUNdraiser at the Armstrong Theatre in the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.
The Torrance Symphony is happy once again to present the talented local singing group called "The Notables" to center stage to delight and entertain with their program, "HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD - Big Screen/Little Screen."
Under the direction of Randall Schwalbe, "The Notables" have been together since 1981 when the employees of the Hughes Aircraft Company decided that they were going to become a notable singing group. It wasn't long before this group lived up to that promise.
Their talents have taken them many times out of the South Bay to perform in Dodger Stadium, KCET, Army and Air Force functions, Juvenile Hall in L.A. and even at a jamboree at MGM Studios.
You'll want to join us on June 30th for a great time listening to such favorites as: "Singing in the Rain", "Laura", "Get Happy", Commercials Medley, TV Themes and "That's Entertainment" to mention a few.
Expect to see costumes, dance routines
and lots of "shtick."
After the main performance there will be refreshments and prizes.
There is limited seating so please plan to get your tickets
early.
